2007 ANNUAL EMPLOYMENT REPORT

 

This filing represents the annual EEO report as required by the Federal Communications Commission for station WCLK, Atlanta GA.  It covers the period December 1, 2006-November 30, 2007.

 

WCLK actively engages in recruitment activities including job fairs, providing high school and college internships, networking with other media contacts as well as other promotional activities to seek volunteers and potential hiring candidates in case vacancies become open.

 

Beginning with January 2007, WCLK posted hiring notices to several recruitment sources to advertise for program director, marketing director, news director, music director (part-time) and development coordinator vacancies.  The positions of program director and news director have not yet been filled.  Recruitment information for these positions will be included in a subsequent EEO report once the positions are filled.

During the reporting period, WCLK advertised for and filled the following positions:

 

Marketing Director - This position was filled in September, 2007. 

 

Five candidates were interviewed for this position. 

 

Recruitment sources included Clark Atlanta website, WCLK website, Georgia State website, Referrals from the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs.  The recruitment source for the applicant ultimately hired was Clark Atlanta University website.

 

Development Coordinator – This position was filled in April 2007.

 

Four candidates were interviewed for this position

 

Recruitment sources included Clark Atlanta website, CAU Alumni referrals, WCLK website, Georgia State website, Referrals from the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Current newspaper.  The recruitment source for the applicant ultimately hired was Clark Atlanta University website

WCLK continues to participate in statewide Job Fairs conducted by the Georgia Department of Labor, as well as engage in information sharing with other public radio stations locally and nationally.  WCLK attends professional radio conferences and uses the opportunity to recruit for candidates.  The General Manager recruited for News Director and Program Director at the Eastern Region Public Media and at the African American Public Radio Consortium meeting at the NPR headquarters.  Both meetings were held in September 2007. 

 

 WCLK’s Volunteer Coordinator participates in the job fair hosted by the Clark Atlanta University Division of Communication Arts, the latest held in September 2007.  The fair welcomes a host of human resource professionals from media outlets across Atlanta.  College students are given information about employment opportunities with the station.  WCLK actively recruits for positions with other stations such as Georgia Public Broadcasting and WABE.

 

Ongoing training - Routinely as a part of the station’s mission students and volunteers are actively recruited to participate in training programs at WCLK.  Training is provided in the areas of membership, sales, promotions and engineering and production.  Students and volunteers are also trained as on-air talent and producers.  The program provides the trained volunteers opportunities to get paid when they assist the station with projects.

 

WCLK actively attends professional conferences and seminars as a recruitment source for talent.
