Dear
listeners, | |
The More
Jazz - Less Static initiative is an effort born out of Jazz 91.9 WCLK’s long-awaited
desire to strengthen its signal penetration so that more people will be able to
hear the station in parts all around Atlanta, free and clear from static and
interference. Finally, we are at a point
where this work can be done. Jazz 91.9
can now put up the seed money to hire an engineering consulting firm to look at
ways we can strengthen the signal. The
initial funds come from the recent sale of a translator signal that we
successfully sold to Extreme Media Group, Inc.
We
anticipate the feasibility study to take over six months to complete…but once
it is finished, it will provide us with a few viable options for increasing the
coverage in Atlanta. We already know
that it will probably mean relocating to a new tower site and placing a new
antenna higher up on the tower and away from the interference that we
experience as a result of the city’s burgeoning skyline. The current tower, located on the campus of
Clark Atlanta University, was erected long before the Atlanta skyscrapers
appeared causing disruptions with our signal transmission and broadcast. We will call this the first phase of the
project.
The
second phase will involve the options that we are provided and our choice of
the most cost effective measure to restore better coverage to listeners. We want to be ready when that time comes and
we don’t want money to be an object. That’s
where you come in and where you can help the most. We have established the More Jazz – Less
Static campaign so that we can be ready with additional funding to implement
the best course of action for the station.
Just think, by this time next year you could be listening to static free
jazz music, news and information on WCLK, in your home as well as in your
car. So we are asking members, listeners
or visitors to the website to get involved and become a part of the More
Jazz-Less Static campaign by making a one- time donation to the fund.
We will use
the website to keep you informed and provide you with updates on the outcomes,
action, and the funding campaign. We are
so close. Help us go all the way. Join the More Jazz Less Static Campaign
now. Click here for information.
Again as
always, we thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Wendy Williams
