Shanachie Entertainment

For close to two decades we've been supporting the music of Anthony David on Jazz 91.9 WCLK. His rootsy, acoustic soul & R&B sound has captivated the hearts and ears of our listeners and even those of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. He's back with a new record coming out September 21 on Shanachie Entertainment entitled Hello Like Before: The Songs Of Bill Withers and it's a return to his down home musical roots. I had the opportunity to sit with him recently and talk in great detail about this project.

Michael Franks has been a leading contemporary Jazz vocalist since the days of his 1975 collaboration with the Crusaders, The Art of Tea.  He's released his first record in eight years, The Music In My Head(Shanachie).  The record features 10 original songs produced by Gil Goldstein, who has produced recent records for Jill Scott, Esperanza Spalding and Chris Botti.

Norman Brown's debut release on Shananchie (and his first solo release in five years) is called Let It Go.  The new release includes includes Jazz and R&B flavors, with plenty of the guitar virtuosity that Brown's long-time fans and Jazz 91.9 WCLK listeners know so well.

He joins with Chante Moore for "Holding You," and re-imagines the Five Stair Steps classic "Oooh Child" for a new era.  Brown is also joined by:   BWB Bandmates, Rick Braun and Kirk Whalum; Sounds of Blackness; Marion Meadows;  and, S.O.U.L & TrayCar.

Norman  is a friend of Jazz 91.9 WCLK.  You can hear cuts from Let It Go on WCLK at various times, including during Serenade to the City, Monday through Friday from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.
