SATURDAY, FEB. 17: Spivey Hall presents Cécile McLorin Salvant with pianist Sullivan Fortner

Spivey Hall continues its 2023/2024 season with Three-Time Grammy Award-Winning vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant and guest pianist Sullivan Fortner on Saturday, February 17 at 7:30pm.

Salvant, is a composer, singer, and visual artist that the late Jessye Norman described as “a unique voice supported by an intelligence and full-fledged musicality, which light up every note she sings”.

Salvant has developed a passion for storytelling and finding the connections between vaudeville, blues, theater, jazz, baroque and folkloric music. Salvant is an eclectic curator, unearthing rarely recorded, forgotten songs with strong narratives, interesting power dynamics, unexpected twists, and humor. Winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk competition, Salvant has received three consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album for “The Window”, “Dreams and Daggers”, and “For One To Love”, and was nominated for the award in 2014 for her album “WomanChild”.

Sullivan Fortner is a Grammy Award-Winning pianist, composer and bandleader from New Orleans who collaborated with Salvant on her Grammy Award-Winning album, "The Window". He has also worked with other jazz icons and legends including Wynton Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves, Paul Simon, Etienne Charles, aTunde Adjuah and the late Roy Hargrove.
