Jazz 91.9 WCLK  - The Jazz of the City - 2013 Spring Membership Campaign takes place on Wednesday, March 13 through Sunday, March 24 with a lot of anticipation and excitement.  The membership campaign theme is “Jazz all over, stronger than ever,” which follows WCLK’s recent coverage area increase last Fall.  It has reenergized a community of Jazz lovers – some who are now receiving a clearer, stronger signal in their offices, homes and cars and, others who are discovering WCLK for the first time due to its extended reach.

It is important to offer communities easy solutions to protect the environment and, Jazz 91.9 WCLK is thrilled to provide pathways to improve sustainability.  For the third year, Jazz 91.9 WCLK in partnership with Clark Atlanta University, the Atlanta University Center Consortium Institutions and Environmental Protection Agency will rally individuals to collect paper products, plastics,  cans, cardboard, glass, cell phones and computer monitors for AUC Recyclemania Day.   AUC Recyclemania Day takes place on Saturday, February 9 from 10:00 a.m. until  2:00 p.m.

Toni Love is an author, educator and hair loss specialist.  Join her Saturday, February 2 at 7am on WCLK for a look at the factors causing hair loss, and the proper approach to this condition from both the client and the stylist perspective.

Toni is joined by both a hair stylist trained to treat hair loss, and a client suffering from hair loss, for a frank discussion about what to do and what not to do.  Should you use hair extensions?  At what point do you need to treat your hair loss as a medical, rather than an personal appearance issue?

Jamal Ahmad(The S.O.U.L. of Jazz) was joined by young lions drummer Terreon Gully, trombonist Andre Hayward & pianist Marc Cary to talk about their involvement in the Jazz Education Network Conference and also to discuss the future of jazz music. Collectively, the three have played with the likes of Sting, Dianne Reeves, Abbey Lincoln, Betty Carter, Lauryn Hill and many others. It was a conversation that shed light on the perspectives of active jazz musicians and the changes that need to be made to ensure this music thrives in the 21st century.

PNC Bank Black History Month Honoree: Pearl Cleage

Saturday morning at 8am on WCLK's The Local Take I'll talk with Pearl Cleage about her career and her latest honor from PNC Bank. Cleage first came to my knowledge after I attended a late-night reading during the 1988 National Black Arts Festival. I reminded her of this event and we were both blushing as we discussed her erotic poetry that was presented that night. We discuss her work across multiple genres including fiction, non-fiction, the theatre and poetry. Born in Detroit, Atlanta has...
