The Local Take Talks Hands Free Georgia Law Beginning July 1

Heads Up Georgia begins July 1, 2018

This week on The Local Take I speak with Robert Hydrick, Communications Manager with the Georgia Office of Highway Safety about the new Hands Free Georgia Act which becomes law on July 1st.

Hydrick explains some activities that we see everyday are currently illegal. The new law makes it illegal for your phone to touch any part of your body while you are driving.

Similar laws in other states have resulted in decreases in traffic deaths by a minimum of 10%, with some states experiencing decreases up to 20%.

It is recommended that drivers use bluetooth devices and dashboard mounts to safely use their phones while driving.

For answers to frequently asked  questions about this law visit Heads Up Georgia.

The Local Take with Kiplyn Primus features discussions about critical issues facing Atlanta and profiles of organizations doing important work in the communities served by WCLK. As public broadcasters it is part of our mission to engage with the community and feature people and issues that aren't always covered by mainstream, commercial media outlets.
