April 14: Nat King Cole Celebration Features Freddy Cole--He Talks About It With Rivablue

Freddie Cole called in to Atlanta's Jazz Station 91.9 WCLK during Midday Jazz to talk about his upcoming performance on Sunday afternoon at Southwest Arts Center in observance of the Centennial of the birth of his brother Nat King Cole. I've known Freddy Cole since the 1980s when I was at Washington DC Jazz Radio Station WDCU. Cole was close to Guitar Bill Harris, who I had befriended. When Harris fell ill, I helped produce a fundraiser and tribute show in his honor and Freddy appeared at the tribute. In our interview this week Freddy talks about his brother and why the time is right to recognize his songs and his greatness. Freddy also lets us know he'll probably play a couple of his own compositions at the performance, too. The band for Sunday's performance has some superb musicians.

Support for WCLK programming comes from Royalty Productions, presenting an afternoon with Freddy Cole on Sunday, April 14 at 2:30pm at the Southwest Arts Center. The event will commemmorate Nat King Cole's Centennial Celebration and will feature Freddy along with Louis Heriveaux, Craig Shaw, Jacques Lesure, Frank Quinones and Sweet Lu Olutosin.
