George Cables: Too Close For Comfort

Aug 9, 2021

George Cables has a new record out on High Note, called Too Close For Comfort. He’s been releasing records of his own and has performed as a side man since 1975, playing with a who’s who of Jazz including Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Art Pepper, and Joe Henderson. He's been one of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. He's a part of the intergenerational Jazz supergroup The Cookers.

This record is a propulsive set of mostly original songs featuring a trio including Bassist Essiet Essiet and drummer Victor Lewis. If you're like me and a straight-ahead acoustic piano trio hits your sweet spot, you'll like this record. I'll feature This Is My Song from Too Close For Comfort on Mainstream and Modern tonight. Stop by and listen to some Jazz records with us, 8pm-1pm Sundays on Jazz 91.9 WCLK.
