The Local Take: Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Hughes Spalding VP Julia Jones

This week on WCLK's The Local Take (8am Saturdays), as everyone's thoughts turn to children returning or virtually attending school, I reached out to Julia Jones, VP of Operations at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding. I asked her to share information about their efforts in our community to keep children safe and healthy.

Jones shared that Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding not only provides hospital services, but also serves as one of the largest Primary Clinics for children in our community.  Jones goes on to explain that children can grow-up in their care program.

I asked how Children’s Hospitals differ from regular hospitals and she mentions that they have dogs, school and games which take place in their facility. Additionally, the staff is trained to engage and interact with children.  She shares some of the challenges that they are facing as many people don't feel safe going to hospitals for care.  We speak about missed vaccinations and general healthcare that isn't being addressed due to the Pandemic.  Jones assures us that the hospital is safe and that children should continue consulting their physicians about any health concerns.

Jones is passionate about her work and I ask how she came to work in hospital administration. She speaks to being an engineer who graduated from Georgia Tech who was tasked with building a digital hospital which is now Emory Hillandale.  When Children's Healthcare of Atlanta approached her about building a digital hospital for children she never looked back.
