The Local Take On Faith In Challenging Times With Muslim And Christian POV

This week in celebration of the Holiday Season we speak with members of the faith community about the challenging times we find ourselves in and the role of faith in our society today.

First, we speak with Soumaya Khalifa, founder of the Islamic Speakers Bureau.  She explains that members of the Muslim community are feeling unwanted in their own country. Ms. Khalifa explains that children are being bullied and are called terrorist at their schools.  She speaks about getting to know our neighbors and understanding that individuals regardless of their faith are still human beings. She emphasizes that Muslims have been a part of this country since it's inception. She encourages us to reach out in peace and understanding to members of our community who are not like us to help build relationships.

The Islamic Speakers Bureau will have programs working specifically with youth and young people in 2016. This organization also provides training to corporate leaders and hosts an annual event honoring the top 100 Muslims in Atlanta.

Also, we speak with Rev. T. Renee Crutcher an ordained Baptist minister who spoke about the faith and the history of the Christian faith community.  She speaks on the current challenges being faced by religious leaders who may seem to align more with political dogma than spiritual dogma.  Rev. Crutcher also explains that religion is a practice, and what we do everyday becomes our religion. She speaks of our nation's history and the current demagoguery being pushed by some of our political leaders.
