The Local Take: Freedom Rider Hank Thomas Fought For Your Right To Vote

Saturday morning at 8:00am on The Local Take on WCLK I spoke with Hank Thomas, one of the original 13 Freedom Riders from 1961. Hank Thomas and the other Freedom Riders rode Greyhound and Trailways interstate buses through the South to protest the non-enforcement of  federal integration laws.  They were beaten, threatened and arrested along the way. Th0mas was also one of the founders of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).

I ask Mr. Thomas about his feelings about low voter turnout, especially among young voters, after putting his life on the line for their voting rights. Mr. Thomas also shares his thoughts on the people who don't vote. He mentions that democracy is also about what happens after you vote.
