The Local Take Speaks With BOOK - Better Outcomes for Our Kids

BOOK - Better Outcomes for Our Kids

The Local Take this week speaks with Kelli Bacote Ross about the BOOK organization (Better Outcomes for Our Kids) and their grassroots efforts to reform our education system. Ms. Ross mentions that there are 4 educational tracks - traditional public schools, public charter schools, home schooling and public virtual schools. She speaks about parents who feel that they do not have a voice or a choice.  She also mentions that many parents don't know what "high performing school" really means. The BOOK organization was founded to bridge the gap between parents and the educational system that is becoming more complex.

BOOK hosts school tours for parents which allows them to see programs and concepts that are working and can be brought back to their children's schools.

Ms. Ross speak about BOOK's recent education summit where a mother who didn't believe in "school choice" and her daughter speak about their journey from traditional school through various options to end up in a virtual school environment.

She shares with us the the KIPP public charter schools have been approved to take in 1100 more students in two new schools.

Ms. Ross invites our listeners to get involved with BOOK and to attend their upcoming meet and greet with Atlanta Public School Board members in January 2018.
