The Local Take Talks 40 Years of Fulton County Arts & Culture

Saturday morning on WCLK's The Local Take I talked with Lionell Thomas, Director of Fulton County Arts and Culture.  This month they are celebrating 40 years.

He explains that the arts provide a quality of life for our communities.  Fulton County Arts and Culture is the largest funder of public art work in our state since their inception in 1979.

The celebration has started and features The High Rise Show taking place at GIRAFFE 34 Peachtree Street. This exhibition includes 100 artists and will run through October 19th. The work includes art from Fulton County's 2019 Fine Art Acquisition. The exhibition runs through October 19th.

Running October 8 - 24 is The King's Exhibition at the Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road. This is a collaboration with Dr. Glenn Toby who secured two works from Jean-Michel Basquiat.  International artists associated with Dr. Toby's Book Bank Foundation are also part of this exhibition.

Additionally there will be a focus on families, with the Thomas Dorsey Exhibition running October 30 - November 14 at the Gallery at the Southwest Arts Center. In each Fulton County district beginning on October 19th for District 1, through November 2 for District 6, families are being invited to have their portraits taken. The Family: Pride, Dignity and Togetherness will showcase selected photos of prominent American families from Fulton County and Chicago between 1978 - 2002. Your family can register to have their portraits taken via Eventbrite.

Thomas shares that more information about the ongoing celebration is available at 404-612-5780, or visit fultonarts.org
