The Local Take talks ArtsXchange and the Ebon Dooley Awards for Art and Justice

Saturday morning at 8am on WCLK's The Local Take I speak with Alice Lovelace about the ArtsXchange. This evening, the ArtsXchange is hosting the 2nd Annual Ebon Dooley Art and Justice Awards.

I ask Ms. Lovelace what types of work are being honored by the ArtsXchange.  She shares the history of Ebon Dooley, an activist, lawyer and artist, and the founding of the ArtsXchange 36 years ago in 1984.

In the past year they moved from their original location in Grant Park to a building in East Point.

The awards program is in conjunction with RENAISSANCE! Harlem South, a program inspired by the culture created during the Harlem Rennaisance, from Rent Parties to Speakeasies, it will all come to life tonight at the ArtsXchange.

I ask about other events and activities that may be of interest and she shares that their current exhibition Atlanta Collects The Renaissance Continues, curated by Mike Harris is running through October 12th.

She also mentions their Scrabble Club and Literacy programs.  Starting October 1st, One Beat will showcase  perfomances from twenty-five international musicians along with other programming around "One Beat."
