The Local Take Talks November 2 Harriet Hike with Sophia Nelson of Visit Black History

Saturday morning at 8am on WCLK's The Local Take I spoke with Sophia Nelson about Onward: A Harriet Hike, taking place on Saturday, November 2nd at the Southview Cemetery. Nelson, founder of VisitBlackHistory.com, heard the call to encourage African American women to take a hike in a green space in conjunction with the opening of the movie Harriet.  Taking it a step further, she reached out to GirlTrek Atlanta’s Brookhaven Seedplanters and Glenwood Gogetters to join her at the historic Southview Cemetery to not only enjoy the green space but to learn a little history at the same time.

Winnie Watts Hemphill, President of the South View Cemetery Association, shares that the tour will include short stories about a few iconic women who are interred at Southview.

The hike will begin at 4pm and end at approximately 5:30pm.  A few hikers will end the evening viewing the new Focus Features Film Harriet
