The Local Take talks Year of Return with Bilal Shareef

This week on WCLK's The Local Take (Saturdays 8am) we continue our celebration of The Year of Return by sharing conversations with metropolitan Atlanta residents who participated with the Jamestown2Jamestown commemoration that took place in August 2019 in Jamestown, Virginia and Jamestown, Ghana.

This is our second conversation and I speak with Bilal Shareef with Advanced Concepts Realty. He mentions that one of the reason's he participated in the Jamestown to Jamestown commemoration was the business component.  Our conversation took place a week after our return to Atlanta in the WCLK Studios.

He speaks about the business opportunities available in Ghana. We speak about his encounter with a chief while in Cape Coast who expressed an interest in providing land to African Americans who return to start businesses in Ghana.

He continuously mentions that the this was a life changing trip and that he will encourage others to make the journey to Ghana. He also speaks to the welcoming attitude of the people.  He shares that he will return to Ghana in December.

2019 was designated The Year of Return marking 400 years of African resistance and persistence in the United States.  From the first Africans that arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1619 to today.
