The Local Take: VoteRunLead Trains Women To Run For Office On May 18th

Saturday morning at 8am on WCLK's The Local Take I talked with Rhonda Briggins, a co-founder and board member of the organization VoteRunLead.  Briggins is based in Atlanta and shares information about the organization's upcoming training.  This training will take place in cities across the U. S. on Saturday, May 18th.  The Atlanta offering will be held at We Work 1175 Peachtree Street from 12pm - 6pm.

VoteRunLead differs from other organizations because they have offices throughout the country and they are non-partisan.  They have launched a tagline "Run As Your Are," Briggins explains that many women feel they need to "do something" before they can run for office.  Most men believe that they can run without any pre-conditions.  VoteRunLead provides a safe space for women who are thinking about running for office to ask questions, learn about tools and techniques and be educated.

I ask Briggins why we need VoteRunLead when more women were elected in the recent mid-terms than ever before and now make up close to 20% of our congress members.  She explains that we need 1 million more women to serve in public offices from local county commissions to school boards to the White House.

I ask who should attend and Briggins explains that all women should attend, those from corporate, non-profit and academic backgrounds.  Register to attend
