Michael Wolff is one of those guys. A keyboardist and songwriter who's name might not jump out at you but over the decades he has worked live and on record with a list including Cannonball Adderly, Cal Tjader, Nancy Wilson and Warren Zevon. He recently overcame major health challenges, and this record, Bounce (Sunnyside Records) comes out of those trials.
His band is a classic Jazz piano-bass-drums lineup but on Cool Kids Wolff welcomes his son Nat to sing one of his own compositions, a languid arrangement and vocal that in the right light brings to mind the 21st century musical child of Chet Baker, smooth mid-range vocals raising to a keening soprano, an aria to late night city streets and what might have beens. We're playing Cool Kids on Mainstream and Modern, Sunday nights 9pm-Midnight to round out your Sunday of Jazz on Jazz 91.9 WCLK.
