Step Afrika! Founder C. Brian Williams stops by Soul of Jazz

Step Afrika

The National Black Arts Festival continues its 2015 program with a Spotlight Series Performance from Step Afrika! on Saturday, August 29 at 6 p.m. at Atlanta's Center Stage.  Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Step Afrika!, a Washington DC-based company, has paved the way as the first professional company in the world dedicated to the African-derived tradition of stepping, popularized in films like “Drumline” (2002) and “Stomp the Yard” (2007).

Saturday's "Symphony in Step" program is a collaboration between Step Afrika!, the Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra (ACSO) and the Saint James UMC Sanctuary Choir with new classical work written by renowned composer  Randall Craig Fleischer and a score in four parts: “Kenako,” “Zulu,” “Wade” and “Nxt Step.”

The Soul of Jazz's Jamal Ahmad recently talked to Step Afrika! fouder, C. Brian Willams about the new show and much more. Check out their conversation below.
