Aretha Franklin's greatest album did not include her R&B, soul and pop music hits. It was her live gospel album, Amazing Grace that sold the most copies and still remains to be her most successful recording to date.
A film about the making of this project is in theaters this Easter weekend titled Amazing Grace: Aretha Franklin. It shows the young Detroit diva teaming up with gospel music icon James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir for two nights of holy ghost-filled music that inspired a generation.
UPFRONT got a chance to see the film a few weeks ago during the Atlanta premiere and talked to gospel music superstars Bryon Cage and Bishop William Murphy as well as vocalist and media personality Darlene McCoy about the impact that album had on their careers. I also chat with one of the film's producers Tirrell D. Whittley of Liquid Soul.
