The organization, originally created and driven by the late Hosea Williams, is now headed by Elisabeth Omilami and her husband Afemo. Elisabeth Omiliami talked with Rob Maynard on the WCLK Public Affairs Block about Hosea Feed The Hungry and Homeless initiatives, including Thursday's Thanksgiving event at the Georgia World Congress Center.

HOSEA Feed the Hungry and Homeless to kick-off
44th annual holiday dinner series
This year’s theme “Stabilizing Families…Stabilizing Communities”
(Atlanta, GA) October 29, 2014 – For the past 44 years, Hosea Feed The Hungry and Homeless (HFTH) has stood in the gap for nearly 20,000 homeless individuals and working families throughout Metropolitan Atlanta who may otherwise go hungry or be alone on during the holidays traditionally reserved to celebrate fellowship, life and love. The annual Thanksgiving Holiday Dinner will mark the beginning of the organization’s Holiday Dinners Festival of Programs and will be held on Thursday, November 27, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center located at 285 International Blvd, NW, Atlanta, GA 30313.
Each night, approximately 2,000 Atlanta citizens sleep under bridges, in parks, and on benches and sidewalks. Another 2,700 cycles in and out of emergency shelters. And according the National Alliance to End of Homelessness, the national rate of homelessness is 20 homeless people per 10,000 people in the general population. The rate for Veterans was 29 homeless Veterans per 10,000 Veterans in the general population. A majority of people identified as homeless were staying in emergency shelters or transitional housing, however 38% were unsheltered living on streets or in cars, abandoned buildings or other places not intended for human habitation. This year, Hosea Feed the Hungry will introduce the holiday series’ new theme “ Stabilizing Families, Stabilizing Communities. The organization has partnered with several community partners throughout the city to deliver programs during the holiday dinners and the outcomes will reveal the economic impact the collaborative efforts will have on the city of Atlanta and surrounding counties.
“In addition to the traditional services offered such clothing, hot showers, beauty and barber services and medical care, we have partnered with other community organizations to offer housing benefits, human services assessments and employment readiness programs, says Mrs. Elizabeth Omilami, President and CEO of Hosea Feed the Hungry. “This year’s approach will allow us to educate the public about the people the organization impacts and expand the awareness that we are a holistic human service organization that transforms lives and families and in return we will transform the City of Atlanta.”
