New Music: Althea Rene/Flawsome

Jazz Flautist Althea Rene has a new self-released record out--Flawsome-- her ninth in a musical journey that began in her hometown of Detroit and featured time at Howard University. Today she tours the world, playing a chilled out Jazz flute sound that is unmistakeable. When she plays in ATL she always stops by to say hi, we've played her music from the beginning. Flawsome features original compositions and thoughtful cover songs.

October 18: Suite Jazz Series Presents Althea Rene

Programming on Jazz 91.9 WCLK is made possible in part by The Suite Food Lounge, home of the Suite Jazz Series, presenting Flautist Althea Rene for one night only Thursday, October 18, performing with the Suite Jazz Band.  Rene is a classically-trained musician who explored outside the genre and is influenced by Yusef Lateef, Ian Anderson and her father Dezie McCullers, one of Motown's original Funk Brothers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner and Jazz at 7:30 p.m. The Suite Food Lounge is located at 375 Luckie Street, in the heart of Downtown Atlanta's entertainment district.

Programming on WCLK is made possible in part by St. James Live, 3220 Butner Road in Atlanta(30331). St. James presents for one night, one performance only on Sunday, July 29-- Flautist Althea Rene. Rene will be performing smooth jazz hits including Sunday Cruise and Free. Althea Rene has performed with Lin Rountree, Marion Meadows and Euge Groove, among others. Doors open 6pm, with showtime at 7pm.

Programming on Jazz 91.9 WCLK is made possible in part by The Wade Ford Summer Concert Series, continuing its Summer-long run with another talent-rich concert.  The concert features Jazz 91.9 mainstay artists: Maysa Leak and Lindsey Webster along with Flutist Althea Rene and Jazz Violinist Karen Briggs.   The annual Summer Concert Series is back at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre in Mableton, GA on Saturday, June 24 at 6:00 p.m.

RivaBlue chats with Jazz in Pink's Althea Rene

Jazz in Pink's Althea Rene chatted with Midday Jazz host Riva Blue about her upcoming performance on Saturday, September 26 as part of the "Summer Evening of Jazz" show. 

The evening will feature Rene along with Gail Johnson, Robin Bramlett, Danielle Thompson and Angela "Angie" Swan. Also performing is saxophonist Antoine Knight and jazz singer and pianist, Dara Carter. 

"Summer Evening of Jazz" is sponsored by the Fayette County Democratic Committee and takes place at the Southern Ground Amphitheatre, located at 301 Lafayette Ave in Fayetteville. Showtime is 6 p.m.
