Atlanta Braves

This week on The Local Take on WCLK we feature conversations from an event I attended in June--the Atlanta Braves Hank Aaron Heritage Week and press conference  held at the Center for Civil and Human Rights. The 2018 honorees included former US Attorney General Eric Holder, Sports Reporter Emeritus at NBC Bob Costas and the Man himself Hammering Hank Aaron along with the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico Carmen Yulin Cruz.

This week The Local Take is talking sports.  African-Americans are playing baseball less than they ever have. There are less than half as many black major leaguers than there were in 1981.  I reached out to John Hollins of ATL Metro RBI to talk about how his organization is working in the community to change the game.

Atlanta Falcons Beatwriter(and friend of WCLK and Clark Atlanta University) Darryl Ledbetter joined me to talk about the important issues--Falcons football, the start of the NFL season, and the player protests. We discuss the upcoming football season and the ongoing controversy surrounding the NFL Players and their protests during the National Anthem before games. Protests of police shootings of unarmed African Americans begun by a number of players, including Colin Kaepernick, have turned into a larger political issue.
