domestic violence

This week on The Local Take I talked with Alma Davis, founder of the Alma G. Davis Foundation, about their upcoming "Dinner For Divas" event in celebration of 150 Domestic Violence survivors.

This is the 10th anniversary of the dinner which is taking place on Saturday, June 8th at the Georgia Aquarium. I ask Ms. Davis why she decided to host an event for survivors.

“Empire” star Gabourey Sidibe can now add director to her long list of accomplishments. The Oscar-nominated actress is behind a new short film that puts a twist on the Nina Simone classic tune, “Four Women.”

Bills pending in the current Georgia Legislature include several impacting sex trafficking, stalking, harassment and domestic violence.  Georgia law covering these issues is woefully out of date in ways that cost lives annually.  Is there bi-partisan support to change this session?

The Call To True Beauty returned for February on Wednesday February 4 at 6pm as we celebrated Valentine's Day a little early by talking about how to practice healthy dating. Do you know the difference between dating and courting?  What expectations do you have when you go on a date, versus your date's expectations?

Call To True Beauty Host Daphne Walker was joined by Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, Lincensed Psychologist and Director of the Counseling Center at Clark Atlanta University.  They talked about it and took your calls.

What would you do if you suspected a friend was a victim of domestic violence?  What would you do if you saw someone being threatened or abused in a DV situation?  That's what we talked about on The Call To True Beauty on WCLK Wednesday, July 2.
