Georgia History

This week on WCLK's The Local Take I asked historian Hermina Glass Hill to share with us information about HB 906 which will allow the sale of a portion of historic Butler Island to investors who want to open a brewery.

This week on The Local Take I speak with Mary Frances Early, the first African-American graduate of the University of Georgia.  Ms. Early graduated with a Master's Degree from UGA in 1962, after earning her bachelor's degree at what was then called Clark College.

Two years ago I spoke with Dr. Kwesi deGraft -Hanson about his discovery of The Weeping Time.  The Weeping Time refers to the largest documented sell off of enslaved humans ever recorded in North America. It happened in Savannah, Georgia. This weekend marks the 159th Anniversary. Saturday morning at 8:00am on The Local Take We'll revisit that conversation with the first of a two part special edition.
