Netflix and OWN announced Friday (June 7) that the closing night of Netflix’s Emmy® FYSEE showcase, featuring a special in-depth conversation hosted by executive producer Oprah Winfrey, with Emmy®-winner Ava DuVernay and the cast of their four-part limited series, When They See Us - will be recorded to premiere on Netflix and OWN, Wednesday June 12 at 10 p.m. EST (immediately following the Season Four premiere of DuVernay’s critically acclaimed “Queen Sugar” at 9p on OWN).

Iyanla Vanzant returns with what appears to be her most explosive season premiere to date. The first episode features Kamiyah Mobley, an angry 19-year-old who was kidnapped at birth and raised by her abductor for nearly her entire life.

The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) will present a “Queen Sugar Red Carpet Season Finale Special" this Wednesday, November 15 at 10:30 p.m. following the 90-minute extended season two finale episode.

This week on The Local Take I speak with Clark Atlanta University alumna Nnegest Likké, an award winning film director, screenwriter and producer.

I ask Nnegest about her start and her first movie. She speaks about doing work in "the laboratory" explaining that there is no easy way to build your expertise.  She read every book that had been written about making movies. She talks about the screenplays she wrote that were bad, but she kept reading and writing until she thought she had something.

Today's edition of #UPFRONT was full of Black star power. We opened the show with Emil Thomas, artistic director of Marietta's New Theatre in the Square. He talked about the company's latest production, "Bright Half Life." The show is playing now through August 5 and is centered around the marriage of two women and the moments that make a life together.
