Carol Albert: For The Moment

May 21, 2021

The saying says  “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” and Carol Albert is taking heed.  She has found a winning formula which has made her one of Smooth Jazz's top artists. And she's a long-time friend and listener to WCLK.  She’s back with another gem from her Stronger Now CD called For The Moment featuring Paul Brown on guitar.

2020 was very good for Phil Denny with Billboard’s  Top 10 Lifted which followed his #1 Feel Alright which featured guitarist David P. Stevens.  Tough Get Goin’ is an uptempo song that may reflect the mood of us all after a year we won’t soon forget.

Check out this week's edition of UPFRONT Inside Atlanta's Entertainment Industry. It features my conversations with veteran actress and dancer Trina Parks, smooth jazz flutist Ragan Whiteside and High Museum of Art Curator Michael Rooks.

New Music: Julian Vaughn Black Dynamite

May 28, 2019

Kansas City Bassist Julian Vaughn plays with funk and finesse on Black Dynamite his latest release on Trippin N Rhythm Records. Vaughn learned music in his grandfather's church choir, and now has a career that has taken him around the world and to the top of the smooth jazz charts as a player, producer, and writer. You can hear Black Dynamite at various times on Atlanta's Jazz Station 91.9 WCLK. It may well be the slinky, chilled out Jazz vibe you need to make it across town at rush hour. Look for Julian Vaughn around town next time he comes through.

Brooklyn is in the house and Mel Holder is on the air on Atlanta's Jazz Station 91.9 WCLK. Brooklyn-born saxophonist Mel Holder hails from there and his journey through gospel and jazz music over his career delivers a sound of driving beats and melodies suggestive of Caribbean, international and gospel music. His song Crossroads, off his latest release Music Book, Vol. III(Psalmist Music Group), includes multi-instrumentalist Ben Tankard, and it will keep you moving.
