SOUL of Jazz with Jamal Ahmad

14-year-old Native South African Justin Lee Schultz, the child prodigy who plays multiple instruments and was musically knighted by Quincy Jones, is back with the title track from his debut Shanachie release Gruv Kid. If you’re looking for tempo and something perfect for those “outdoors” moments this is the song.  His album has been on the music charts most of 2020, and with this new single 2021 will continue to expose Justin to new audiences.

The production projects of legendary U.K producer/songwriter Simon law are no stranger to many of your music playlists. His work can be heard from a diverse array of artists in the 90s like Soul II Soul, Maurice White(EWF), Maxi Priest, Maysa, Chante Moore, Lucky Dube and so many others. His 2017 solo album Look To The Sky, which featured many of his cohorts from those days of yore, was a staple on my show, The S.O.U.L Of Jazz.

Blake Aaron is back with a new single and album, titled Daylight on Innervision Records. It features Blake’s signature guitar strumming on a song that has an island flavor. The song takes you to the beach or a tropical place where you can imagine waking to the first signs of daylight! Blake has been delivering Jazz radio hit after hit and his winning streak doesn’t seem to be slowing down. This song is great for riding, chilling or whatever you may decide to do. I felt this is one WCLK listeners would enjoy.

Incognito returns to Cobb Energy Centre for their 40th anniversary tour with special guest Maysa and Citrus Sun tonight at 7:30 p.m.  Bluey, the band's guiding light, stopped by WCLK to talk with me about the show and much else during The SOUL of Jazz.

The Atlanta Jazz Festival presents Jazzmeia Horn for one night only, Saturday, January 27 at Rich Auditorium at the Woodruff Arts Center at 8:00 p.m. This concert is part of the AJF's Emerging Jazz Icons Series.   Horn talked with Jamal Ahmad host of SOUL of Jazz about this performance and her music.  More information about this performance including tickets, is available by clicking here.
