Last Christmas I had a fascinating conversation with Nadine McKinnor. You may not have heard of McKinnor, but you have probably heard Donny Hathaway's This Christmas, a holiday soul classic that has been covered by many including The Temptations, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Diana Ross, Gloria Estefan, Usher, Spyro Gyra, Cee Lo Green and many others. Hathaway co-wrote the song with Nadine McKinnor when he was recording as Donnie Pitts. It's been called the best holiday song written by African Americans, and it was named one of the 30 Greatest Holiday Songs of the 20th Century by ASCAP. McKinnor is a Chicago native born in the 1940s like Donny Hathaway. Find out more about the song and her life in the interview link below.
