An American Marriage - Tayari Jones

Join me Saturday, February 3,  8:00 a.m. at a new time on The Local Take on Jazz 91.9 WCLK as I speak with Atlanta's own Tayari Jones, award winning writer of  Leaving Atlanta  and  Silver Sparrow.  We discuss her new novel An American Marriage and her upcoming program at the Alliance Theatre where she will speak with her mentor Pearl Cleage.

I ask Tayari how she became a novelist; she speaks about enrolling in her first creative writing class at Spelman College and how Pearl Cleage became her mentor.

Atlanta is a character in her novels. She shares stories of growing up in Atlanta's Southside, and having everything that her family needed in the neighborhood. Although she hasn't lived in Atlanta for while, it is still "home" to her. I ask for her advice for young writers and instead she provides advice for older people who have always wanted to write, but had life get in the way.
