This week on The Local Take on WCLK I talk with Fayron Epps, PhD., RN, Associate Professor of Nursing at Georgia State University.  Our topic is dementia. She explains that dementia is an umbrella term that includes a plethora of unique diagnoses. As with other diseases, the African-American community suffers disproportionately to the general population.

Epps is doing research and working with the faith community to educate our community. Faith Village Connections works with Emory ADRC, Alzheimer’s Association Georgia Chapter, SageNavigator, churches, and community partners to spread dementia awareness. They will host an informational event on Saturday May 19th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 at the Light of the World Church International, Inc., 1040 Willingham Drive East Point, GA 30344 For more information on event https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dementia-friendly-faith-village-connections-community-forum-tickets-43167980592 For More information on Fayron Epps, PhD., RN http://gerontology.gsu.edu/profile/fayron-epps-phd-rn/
