René Marie"
MaryLynn Gillaspie/Motema Music

Sunday afternoon on Jazz Tones on WCLK I had the opportunity to interview René Marie. She is a vocalist, arranger and composer. theatrical performer, and teacher. She was born in Warrenton, Virginia and neither of her parents were formally trained musicians but exposed her to Blues, R&B,classical, folk and bluegrass music. Part of René's musical philosophy has been focused on giving back. In  2010 she launched a series of vocal group sessions called Slam. Her lastest release was 2016's Sound of Red.  This was her first album of all orginal material. Rene' Marie will be appearing with the GSU Jazz Band at Georgia State's Rialto Center for the Performing Arts on Friday April 20 at 8pm. Ticket information is available here.
