The Marietta Theatre in The Square is bringing RAISIN IN THE SUN to the stage. This revival is still relevant to our times. Emil Thomas, Executive Artistic Director, joined us to talk about this upcoming production and the recent theatre refresh.
I asked Thomas about the renovation and the new beverage service being offered. He speaks about patrons asking to enjoy a glass of wine and that they are now selling beer and wine, which can be enjoyed in the theatre.
We discuss the play's relevancy with home prices, generational wealth, and gentrification. Thomas shares that there is a “family love story” at the heart of the play for him. He speaks to Walter Lee, wanting to leave a legacy for his family. Thomas also shares that the production involves several known Atlanta actors. The production opens on March 17th and runs through April 2nd.
Thomas also shares that this year’s schedule will include an “all-black” Steel Magnolias production. To keep up with the happenings of the Marietta Theatre in the Square
