Wayne Shorter, Terri Lyne Carrrington, Samara Joy, The Baylor Project, Ambrose Akinmusire and more up for Grammy Awards

The Recording Academy announced nominations earlier today for the 2023 Grammy Awards and a good number of Jazz Music Awards honorees, nominees and winners were nominated. The live announcement took place at 9am PST/12pm EST and was streamed from LA's Grammy Museum.

Jazz Music Awards Lifetime Achievement honoree—-Wayne Shorter—-received double nominations alongside Leo Genovese for 'Best Improvised Jazz Solo' for the project, Endangered Species and 'Best Instrumental Album' for Live at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Joining these two in a double nomination is Jazz Music Awards Musical Director Terri Lyne Carrington for her work on Live at the Detroit Jazz Festival and for her own New Standards Vol. 1, which was nominated for 'Best Jazz Instrumental Album'.

Jazz Music Awards Jazz Innovator honoree Ambrose Akinmusire picked up a nomination for 'Best Improvised Jazz Solo' for his project, Rounds (Live) while 3x Jazz Music Awards nominee, The Baylor Project earned a nod for 'Best Jazz Vocal Album' for their new project, The Evening : Live At APPARATUS. Marcus Baylor also picked up an individual nod for 'Best Improvised Jazz Solo' for the album, Call Of The Drum.

America's newest musical sweetheart and Jazz Music Awards 'Best New Artist' winner Samara Joy also picked up two nominations including 'Best New Artist' and 'Best Jazz Vocal Album' for her new project, Linger Awhile.
