Dr. Bernice A. King cordially invites you to the Kick-Off Reception and Book Signing for 2024 MLK Week on Tuesday, January 9. According to The King Center website, the reception is the official opening event for the 2024 King Holiday Observance and is an invitation to the public to celebrate and commemorate the legacy of her father, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The reception is from 5:30pm until 8:30pm and will take place in the Freedom Hall Atrium of The King Center Campus.
Other Observance Week activities include a Youth Reading and Puppetry Presentation, The Beloved Community Global Summit, The Beloved Community Youth Summit, The Beloved Community Teach-In and the Beloved Community Service Project.
The highly-anticipated Beloved Community Awards will take place on Saturday, January 13 at 6pm at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and is hosted by television actors Essence Atkins and Dule Hill. Honorees include Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump (Social Justice Award); iconic TV and film star Michael J. Fox (Yolanda D. King Higher Ground Award); and Michael Jordan's mother Deloris Jordan (Coretta Scott King Soul of The Nation Award) to name a few. Celebrity presenters include Boxing World Champion Laila Ali and Till star Jalyn Hall along with musical performances by Chrisette Michele and famed vocal coach Stevie Mackey. Following the award show is the "Afterglow" Soiree with R&B music legend Ronald Isley featuring The Isley Brothers.
The Commemorative MLK Service will take place on Monday, January 15 at 10am at Ebenezer Baptist Church New Horizon Sanctuary featuring the Keynote Address by Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley, President and CEO of the National Council of Negro Women.
