Callanwolde Fine Arts Center has announced the lineup for the 25th Anniversary Jazz on the Lawn Concert Series presented by Audi Atlanta. Both individual and season tickets are available to purchase. Callanwolde’s Jazz on the Lawn features exceptional musicians delivering lively performances under the stars at the beautiful and historic Callanwolde estate. This year’s schedule has something for everyone, featuring popular artists Karla Harris and the Joe Alterman Trio, The Grant Green Jr. Group, Pete Ayers Quartet, Eddie and Mayi Lopez Orquesta Macuba, and Joe Gransden with Big Band and Three Special Surprise Guests.
“Friday nights at Callanwolde will be the hot ticket as we host a sensational mix of classic and contemporary jazz, swing, smooth, and blues music at the 25th annual Jazz on the Lawn Concert Series,” said Callanwolde Fine Arts Center Executive Director Andrew Keenan. “Callanwolde provides an intimate atmosphere to spend time with friends, unwind, and experience an evening of live music while supporting affordable and accessible arts education.”
August 23: Karla Harris and the Joe Alterman Trio
A night with Karla and the swinging Joe Alterman Trio will feature straight-ahead jazz celebrating the Great American Songbook under the stars. A special performance featuring students from Callanwolde’s community engagement programming led by Karla may just be the highlight of the evening.
September 6: The Grant Green Jr. Group
A fixture in both the jam band and jazz scenes, Grant Green Jr, has returned to his classic jazz roots in his most recent album, a tribute to the music of Burt Bacharach. Grant, Jr. will perform fresh arrangements of some of the more popular Bacharach tunes, with a couple of lesser-known pieces to add extra flair.
September 20: Pete Ayers Quartet
Back by popular demand, Pete Ayers will be coming from New York City to perform a wide range of styles stemming from his jazz and R&B musical roots. Pete’s voice ranges from smooth and airy to raw and soulful, while his songwriting and performances cover a mix of jazz, pop, soul and R&B.
October 4: Eddie and Mayi Lopez Orquesta Macuba
A fixture of the Atlanta scene since 2003, Eddie and Mayi Lopez Orquesta Macuba perform with an average of 10 musicians at all times. Mayi’s sultry Cuban voice and original Cuban choreography and dance moves are unmatched … but don’t let that stop you from trying as this concert will feature a dance floor, allowing concert-goers to practice the dance moves they have been learning at Callanwolde’s popular Salsa Night.
October 18: Joe Gransden with Big Band and Three Special Surprise Guests
Renowned for their unparalleled energy and captivating performances, The Joe Gransden 17-Piece Big Band is a powerhouse on the jazz circuit, dazzling audiences nationwide. This Atlanta-based ensemble led by Gransden's charismatic vocals promises an enchanting night of swing and sophistication. And for a special 25th anniversary celebration twist, three divas of the Atlanta jazz scene will join Gransden on stage for what is certain to be the quintessential jazz under the stars experience.
