Friends of Georgia Radio to honor WCLK's GM Wendy F. Williams

Friends of Georgia Radio has announced its new Hall of Legends Class of 2024 and WCLK's very own General Manager, Wendy F. Williams, will be inducted. The 3rd Annual Celebration will take place on Saturday, August 24 at the City Springs - Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center.

The Hall of Legends Celebration recognizes media professionals who have made immeasurable contributions to public and commercial radio stations throughout the state of Georgia. Many of the inductees include on-air personalities, station managers, engineers, and program directors.

Other Hall of Legends include Steve Craig (99x), Bobby Ellerbee (To Be Or Ellerbee), Bob Helbush (Cox Media Group), Brady McGraw (Quality Rock Q105.3), Pete Spriggs (WSB Radio), Howard Toole (Rome Radio Partners, LLC.)

Wendy Williams has been the General Manager and visionary leader of Jazz 91.9 WCLK since 1994 --- almost 30 years - -- guiding it to legendary status as one of the nation’s most respected jazz outlets. She saw the future before other commercial operators did, and by 1997, WCLK was one of the first Atlanta stations to stream their programming. Williams also saw the potential for translators, acquiring 5 and leveraging them to larger companies in return for tower space on mega-towers, thus giving WCLK full market coverage. In 2022, Wendy brought more national attention to Atlanta as Executive Producer of the first ever Jazz Music Awards (JMA), held at the Cobb performing Arts Center and re-broadcast on GPB. She is busy behind the scenes working to take the awards program national.

William’s 36-year broadcasting career spans public and commercial radio and TV, and includes stints at Baltimore's WEAA-FM and Pittsburgh's WPXI-TV. She holds a BA in Communications from Bowling Green State University and an MBA in Marketing from Clark Atlanta University, where she is an Adjunct Professor of Mass Media Arts. She is a founding member and chair of the African American Public Radio Consortium, providing programming to over 60 stations. She has received numerous accolades, including induction into the Atlanta Tribune's Hall of Fame.
