On Sunday, February 1 at 2:00 PM, the Sunday of the Grammy Awards, WCLK’s Debb Moore will host a special conversation with Grammy-nominated drummer, composer, and educator Terri Lyne Carrington and acclaimed vocalist and collaborator Christie Dashiell about their ambitious project WE INSIST 2025, a contemporary reimagining of Max Roach’s seminal civil rights suite that resonates with today’s struggles and aspirations.
Carrington, whose work consistently champions artistic innovation and social justice, describes the project as “a call to action. It’s a project of community spirit and collectivism with an ensemble of some of the best creative musicians and artists in our field, most of whom are signed to Candid Records,” underscoring the collective nature and cultural urgency of the work.
Joined by Dashiell, whose voice and artistic vision help bridge jazz tradition with modern expression, the conversation with Moore will explore how WE INSIST 2025 honors the legacy of its 1960 predecessor while speaking powerfully to issues of freedom, identity, and inclusion in the present.
