Jazz 91.9 WCLK’s Jamal Ahmad is bringing his deep knowledge and passion for Black music to the National Black Arts Festival’s (NBAF) Black Sound series on Wednesday, October 21 at the Auburn Avenue Research Library.
The new humanities and music series explores the influence of Black music as a powerful force for cultural memory, creativity and innovation. Through music, live performance and conversations with artists and cultural thinkers, Black Sound examines the traditions and sounds that have helped shape generations—from spirituals and blues to jazz, gospel, hip-hop, rock, house and beyond.
The series launches with WCLK’s own Jamal Ahmad, host of Sounds of Universal Love (S.O.U.L.). Known for his eclectic musical knowledge and passion for global sounds, Ahmad will share music and stories while discussing the origins of S.O.U.L., his approach to music curation and the cultural connections that make Black music such a powerful force around the world.
For WCLK listeners, this is a special opportunity to experience Jamal Ahmad beyond the airwaves as he takes audiences on a journey through the music, history and cultural influences that continue to inspire his work.
