Experience one of Broadway’s most powerful musical dramas when Ragtime: The Musical opens Friday, September 25 at Marietta’s Theatre in the Square and runs through October 11, 2026.
Based on E.L. Doctorow’s acclaimed novel, Ragtime tells the stories of three families—a wealthy white family, a Jewish immigrant family and a Black family led by talented ragtime musician Coalhouse Walker Jr.—whose lives become intertwined in turn-of-the-century America.
With a score that draws from ragtime, gospel, jazz and other musical traditions, the production explores the American Dream, immigration, race, class, prejudice, hope and the struggle for justice. The story also features several historical figures who helped shape the era, including J.P. Morgan, Emma Goldman, Harry Houdini, Evelyn Nesbit and Henry Ford.
Ragtime offers a sweeping look at America at the dawn of the 20th century while reminding audiences of the enduring power of music, storytelling and the pursuit of a better future.
