Jon Goode and Faith Carmichael Talk NBAF, Next-Atlanta Salon July 31

Jon Goode is an Emmy Award-Winning HBO Def Poet.  You've seen his work all over television, and if you attend The NEXT Salon at the Hammonds House Museum on Peeples Street in Historic West End on Thursday, July 31, you can see him slam some verse.  Goode and NEXT Executive Director Faith Carmichael joined Kiplyn Primus to talk about it on the WCLK Public Affairs Block, heard Saturday mornings from 7-8am before Tavis on WCLK.

On Thursday, July 31, NEXT, in partnership with the National Black Arts Festival (NBAF), will play host to four of the city’s most aspiring visual artists, writers, poets and musicians — artists on the cusp of stardom. This emerging artist showcase will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Hammonds House Museum, featuring the works of Fahamu Pecou (visual artist/scholar), Michael Molina (playwright), Jon Goode (poet), and Brenda Nicole Moorer (musician).

But NEXT is more than art for art’s sake. Evoking the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance, this interactive salon in the Victorian home of the late Dr. Otis Thrash Hammonds, encourages real-time collaboration between the artists and the audience in an evening of high-level connecting, candid conversation, and soul-baring performances.

The evening also represents the inaugural event of the NBAF NEXT series -- a multi-year partnership between NBAF, NEXT and the national network Alternate ROOTS, which aims to elevate mostly Atlanta-based artists whose work focuses on affecting social change. Additionally, Atlanta's own Horne Brothers will be collecting and producing footage for an upcoming documentary highlighting the four featured NEXT artists, due out this Fall.

Wine, cocktails and a mixture of African, Caribbean and African-American tapas will be served.

Tickets for NEXT: The Salon on Thursday, July 31 at 7:00 pm at Hammonds House Museum in Atlanta’s West End are only $20 and can be purchased at NEXT-Atlanta.com or at http://nbaf-next.bpt.me. Hammonds House Museum, 503 Peeples St SW, Atlanta, GA 30310.

NEXT: The Salon is supported in part by Creative Intelligence, Mustard Seed Communications, Hammonds House Museum, Jazz 91.9 WCLK, Nucleus Creative, Binders Art Supplies and numerous other individual contributions.
