Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre returns to The Fox Theater 2/21-24

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre returns to the Fabulous Fox Theater for its Atlanta Engagement February 21-24 and we are here for it. Recognized by U.S. Congress as a vital American “Cultural Ambassadors to the World,” the beloved dance company is honoring founder Alvin Ailey’s pioneering legacy and carrying it forward with a 60th Anniversary celebration titled Ailey Ascending.

Led by artistic director Robert Battle, Ailey’s 32 renowned dancers on a 21-city North American Tour from February 1 – May 12, 2019 will elevate a legacy of innovation and excellence in artistry with premieres by some of today’s most revered and prolific choreographers along with timeless treasures by Alvin Ailey.

This year's show includes Rennie Harris' Lazarus, the company first two-act ballet that features original music from Nina Simone, Terrence Trent D'Arby, Odetta and more. Ronald K. Brown's The Call is described as "a love letter to Mr. Ailey" along with Robert Battle's Juba, which is a modern-day Rite of Springs. Other works include Timeless Ailey which features such fan favorites as Night Creatures and Cry. Members Don't Get Weary is performed by popular Ailey dancer Jamar Roberts with music from jazz icon John Coltrane and finally the American Classic...Revelations.
