This morning’s UPFRONT is all about #BlackGirlMagic. It features Black and Blue star Naomie Harris, producer and writer Cas Sigers-Beedles and Harriet director Kasi Lemmons.
Cas Sigers-Beedles stopped by to chat about her new #REELDIVAS Initiative. It is inspired by a recent photo shoot featuring 20 of Georgia’s top Black and Latina women filmmakers, directors, producers, writers, and content creators. The photo debuted on DEADLINE.COM last week and has created a lot of buzz on social media around the topics of race, diversity and inclusion.
Oscar-nominated actress Naomie Harris was in town this week promoting her new film Black and Blue. UPFRONT caught up with her during the fabulous black carpet premiere as she discussed the historical significance of her character, Alicia and more.
Closing out the show is my exclusive with noted director Kasi Lemmons. She talked directly to UPFRONT following a recent screening of her new film Harriet. During the conversation, she opened up about casting and why British-born actress Cynthia Erivo was the perfect choice for Harriet Tubman. She also recalls her bond with the late, great Diahann Carroll, whom she worked with during her now classic film, Eve’s Bayou.
UPFRONT airs every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. on Atlanta’s Jazz Station—-91.9 WCLK.
