Join the Breman Museum tomorrow (Thursday, October 1) at 11 a.m. for a Zoom Arts Talk with famed photographer Herb Snitzer. He will be joined by curator Tony Casadonte as they chat about their new exhibition A Jazz Memoir: Photography by Herb Snitzer on view now through December 31.
They will discuss the music, America's jazz scene between 1957-1964 and the iconic artists he captured in photos including Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington and many more. Snitzer will also talk about his use of photography to effect social change and his belief that "Injustice for one is injustice for all." Click here to register.
In addition, there will be another Zoom Arts Talk on Thursday, October 15 titled Jews and Jazz: A Discussion of the impact of Jews on the Jazz Scene. It will feature Gary Motley, Emory University Professor of Performance and founding Director of Jazz Studies and Dr. Gordon Vernick, Professor of Music and Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Georgia State University.
They will discuss the contributions to jazz and American popular music from George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Yip Harburg, Richard Rogers, Oscar Hammerstein, Harold Arlen and Arthur Schwartz and more. Click here to register.
