The Fortitude Fitness Expo is designed to connect DeKalb County families to beneficial programs and services in the community with the goal of improving wellness in all areas of family life. The DeKalb County Board of Health will be offering Flu shots and COVID vaccines. Participants will be able to participate in the American Red Cross Blood Drive, Prostate Cancer screening. Mobile Units will be on site for glucose and cholesterol screenings as well as HIV testing. The Beulah Community Life Center will offer Line Dancing classes and Pickleball demonstrations, with a free 7-day trial membership to Expo participants. Expo sponsors include the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, the National Urban League, DeKalb Public Health and many, many more!
Dress to impress on May 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. for the Kentucky Derby viewing party on The Green at Phipps Plaza, an outdoor green space located in front of Citizens Market Food Hall and Nobu Hotel & Restaurant. Experience the thrill of the run for the roses on Phipps Plaza’s outdoor big screen while enjoying Derby-themed specials such as fried green tomatoes ($7), smoked BBQ wings ($1 each), and the pimento burger ($13). Sip on cocktails inspired by the Derby such as the Mint Julep ($12), Kentucky Mule ($13) and High Horse ($14). Enjoy live music while making a complimentary fascinator and capturing photos in front of the Derby-themed flower wall. Guests will also have a chance to win Citizens Market gift cards by entering the “Best Hat” and “Best Dressed” contests.

If you like listening to a live band performing different genre of music, here’s an event you might like to attend that is free and open to the public. The Metropolitan Atlanta Community Band (MACB) will be performing on Sunday, May 5, 2024, 4:00 PM, at the Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road SW in South Fulton, Georgia. Again, the event is free, and the public is invited.
The concert will feature a variety of music. One selection MACB will be performing is named ‘Sunscapes’ which depicts the lively and sunny nature of the state of Florida. Opening with a brilliant and majestic section highlighting the state’s bright and vibrant culture, a flowing melody follows, representing the calming winds and consistent breeze of the state. Another musical piece MACB will perform is titled ‘Michael Jackson Hit Mix,’ a medley of landmark hits from Michael’s early solo career—includes: Billie Jean, Beat It, Bad, and Thriller. So, come out to hear the above selections and other musical selections MACB will be performing on May 5, 2024 at 4 PM at the Southwest Arts Center.
The Metropolitan Atlanta Community Band, based in Southwest Atlanta, is a not-for-profit all-volunteer organization, awarding college scholarships to deserving high school seniors. The band has performed in venues large and small throughout Atlanta and as far away as Washington, DC.

The third annual European Film Festival of Atlanta (EFFA) is taking place May 8-May 11, 2024. The Alliance Française Atlanta, the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta and various European Consulates are pleased to announce the return of the festival to the historic Plaza Theatre & Tara Theater.
This year 14 countries are collaborating: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Romania, Switzerland and Ukraine. All films will be screened in their native language(s) with English subtitles.
The festival will take place in the Tara Theater and the Plaza Theater.
The opening night reception will take place at the Tara Theater on May 8. See you there!
