Lyke House Catholic Center at AUC Celebrating Anniversary Weekend

Monsignor Edward Branch stopped by WCLK recently to talk about Lyke House’s 14th Annual Dedication Weekend, October 17-20, 2013.  Lyke House is the Catholic Center for the Atlanta University Center.

Constructed in October 1999 and named after the late Archbishop James P. Lyke, O.F.M., the Lyke House is a place of worship, a house of African heritage, a liturgical laboratory, and a school of theological literacy.  The facility as it stands now (from 1992-1999 they operated out of a little blue house on James P. Brawley Dr.) reflects the African roots of Catholic Christianity.

The Lyke House is a community, a family that consists of students, faculty, staff and volunteers locally, and extends to parents, donors, and friends from all around the world.  An incubator for the Church’s future leadership-both lay and ordained-students involved with Lyke House become completely aware of the glory of God, charged forever to intellectually serve humanity in a spirit of love and mercy.

Events for the upcoming Anniversary Weekend are as follows:

October 17, 4:00 – 6:00 PM | Meet & Greet Reception for AUC Faculty and Staff

October 18, 6:00 – 8:00 PM | Community of Parishes Celebrate with the Lyke House Bowman Scholars (the musicians who lead our worship services in music); light refreshments served

October 19, 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM | Day of Community Service for students, staff, Lyke House Council of Advisors, and volunteers

October 20, 10:15 AM – 1:00 PM | Dedication Sunday Mass and Brunch
