Atlanta’s Jazz Station will recognize the exceptional work of organizations that have made a difference in Greater Atlanta through a series of on air spotlights and engagement initiatives: WCLK Community Honors presented by Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead. WCLK Community Honors presented by Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead is a yearlong program that will honor a deserving organization every quarter beginning April 2014.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead will make a monetary contribution to each selected organization. Organizations will be selected based on three core values: service, empowerment and merit.
“Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead is proud to be an active and significant contributor to the community we serve through outreach activities like WCLK Community Honors,” says Juanita Baranco, COO. “We support endeavors that provide outstanding service, thus strengthen communities and improving the quality of life.”
In April, WCLK Community Honors spotlights the Center for Cancer Research and Therapeutic Development (CCRTD) for its efforts on prostate cancer research and awareness. “CCRTD is at the core of research in prostate cancer and, I am so grateful for our strong team and partners who contribute in the development of strategies to combat cancer,” says Dr. Shafiq A. Khan, director, CCRTD. “We are extremely pleased to receive this honor.”
Established in 1999, the CCRTD is currently leading innovative clinical and translational studies in prostate cancer. The only HBCU member of the Georgia Research Alliance and the nation’s largest research center devoted to the study of prostate cancer in the African American community, CCRTD continues to advance the search for a cure to the disease.
