Join us for The Local Take on WCLK Saturday morning at 7am as I speak with Kimberlyn Daniel, CEO of the YWCA of Greater Atlanta, and Rep. Dee Dawkins-Haigler of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. They both have important conferences in Atlanta on Tuesday, September 22nd.

Kimberlyn Daniel and I discuss YWCA's 2nd Citywide Forum. This year the conversation is being called Perspectives: The Intersection of Race & Gender. Ms. Daniels explains eliminating the "isms" that still impact the growth of women in our community is a challenge. The event will include a panel discussion lead by Deborah Richardson from the Center for Civil and Human Rights. Participants will participate in a facilitated discussion on race and gender. This event will provide tools and perspectives that can be shared within each individual's community.

Ms. Daniels also provides information on the four disciplines that make up the work of the YWCA: Advocacy and Social Justice, Women's Health and Safety, STEAM Initiative for Girls and Early Childhood Education.

I also spoke with Representative Dee Dawkins-Haigler(D-Lithonia) about the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and the Administration for Children and Families hosting the Georgia Southeast Regional Conference on Child Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking. This free all day event is taking place on Tuesday, September 22nd at Atlanta Metropolitan State College beginning at 9AM. This event is FREE and open to the public. Teenagers and young adults are encouraged to attend and will be giving excuses to cover their absence from school. The conference will educate participants about the tools used by predators in the human sex trafficking trade. Information on preventing and surviving domestic violence, with the realization that sometimes the partners are in high school.
