The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival Oct. 8 - 11

The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival Oct 8-11

Saturday morning on The Local Take I'm talking with the Founder of the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, Toni Henson, along with Playwright, Mzuri Aimbaya, and Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA) Alumnus and Production Assistant, Chi Ife.

This year's festival takes place over the weekend, October 8 - 11 at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center located on the Morehouse College campus in the Atlanta University Center (AUC).

With 40 Plays in 4 Days - The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival returns October 8 - 11 at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center, 900 West End Avenue SW on the campus of Morehouse College.  Performances include urban drama, comedies and musicals along with symposiums for people interested in acting, writing and being part of the theatre community.

Mzuri Moyo Aimbaye, who brings to life the story of Fannie Lou Hamer speaks with us about her inspiration and her focus. After witnessing an interview that legendary Journalist, Gil Noble produced with Fannie Lou Hamer she was determined to know about this heroine of the Civil Rights Movement.  From that impetus her one-woman show was born.  With music and style, Aimbaye embodies the Fannie Lou Hamer.

Chi Ife an alum of the YEA (formerly Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble) and currently a production assistant and stand in actor for Carnaval de Medea a Bacchanal.  This take on the classic of Medea takes place in Trinidad during Carnival season.  Betrayal and revenge have never been more colorful or dramatic.  Fresh from the Scotland and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this ancient myth of a woman scorned is infused with the spirit of the Caribbean and the African Gods Orishas.

Toni Simmons Henson is the founder of The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival she shares with us some of the other highlights and invites our listeners and the metropolitan Atlanta community to join in the DRAMA with 40 Plays in 4 Days.
