Saturday, September 3 at 7:00 a.m. on The Local Take on Jazz 91.9 WCLK I'll continue our ongoing Black Lives Matter conversation about police violence and criminal justice reform in our community. We'll talk about the horrible and disturbing events of August 5 in East Point with Community Activist NickyPurple and Monteria Robinson, mother of former Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Student, Jamarion Robinson. Jamarion Robinson was riddled with bullets and killed by a squadron of heavily armed federal marshals and East Point Police that day as they attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Jamarion for his alleged role in attacking law enforcement during the week before his death.
It has been reported that the Metro Fugitive Squad, U. S. Marshals, were there to serve a warrant. We also know that Jamarion had no history of any violent crime, nor had he ever been convicted of any felony. Law enforcement knew that Jamarion suffered from mental illness. His mother explains that he had his condition under control, often working out and even babysitting his young niece. According to Monteria Robinson, Jamarion came from a military family and he was a "yes sir, yes ma'am" young man who respected authority.
Monteria Robinson shares that her son resided with her in Lawrenceville but was visiting his girlfriend at the time of his death. The U. S. Marshals were joined by East Point police officers in what became a violent and tragic event. It is alleged that over 95 shots were fired and Jamarion was wounded some 76 times. Ms. Robinson is determined to obtain justice for her son.
NickyPurple alleges that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) didn't perform a thorough investigation and that evidence may have been tampered with. The private investigator hired by the family claims evidence shows that Jamarion was 'finished off' by shots fired straight down into him, and that his body had been moved from the place he was killed in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
